Spurs Roll Thanks to Historic First Half

Kawhi Leonard started 6 for 6 and had a game high 29 points

Welp. That was some beautiful basketball. The Spurs dropped 41 points in the first quarter and 71 in the first half. That's not a typo, statistically San Antonio just pulled off the greatest half of basketball in NBA Finals history.

The Spurs shot an NBA record 75.8% in the first half. At one point in the second quarter, the Spurs were shooting a scorching 90.5% for the game. This wasn't all luck either, most of those shots were to open thanks to some unbelievable ball movement such as below:

For years, the Spurs were decried by fans and media as boring. That claim seems absolutely ridiculous today. They may be the most watchable team in the NBA right now. Every little league coach across the world should be showing their kids film of San Antonio. This is absolute mastery of the game.

If I'm Miami, I look at the film to figure out ways to better close out on shooters and then I forget this happened entirely. As good as the Spurs are, they aren't likely to shoot 76% from the field in a half again.

In the post game presser, a reporter asked Lebron James and Dywane Wade if the problem was their lackluster defense or their lackluster offense. The two stayed silent for a while and then just laughed. After a game like this, that's pretty much all you can do.
